Lichen

During the project “Lost in translation, a series of nature translations” I created a sculpture inspired by lichens. With its bright orange finish and extreme details, the piece became the perfect eye-catcher of the installation, hanging right in the middle.

Alongside the Lythrum series, a new serie of sculptures was created. The making process followed a similar path: through drawings, collages, and form studies I explored the shapes and structures that make lichens so unique. I translated their detail into clay, giving the sculptures a tactile and organic look.

This series continues to inspire me. New sculptures and series still emerge from this first exploration of lichens. It is a process that keeps unfolding, with every new form evolving from the one before. The structure that originated from the lichens has grown into one of my signature forms, and has become one of the most recognizable expressions of my artistic practice.
